Organize your home before the baby arrives-Dealing with a new baby takes enough energy without having to sort through clutter. Start early! Many baby has arrived much earlier than expected!
Buy a diaper bag-with several compartments and keep it stocked with: blanket, extra outfit, diapers, wipes, ointment, snacks for Mom and feeding supplies.
Place containers-Filled with diapers, wipes and ointment around the house. You won't want to walk to the nursery every time your newborn needs to be changed.
Have a baby memory book-- A baby how-to book and a notebook ready and accessible. You can fill in, find out and make notes whenever you have a spare minute.
Plan on relaxing your housekeeping standards-the first year after baby's arrival. Focus on the baby's and your needs. Aside from basic clothes washing and meals, the house can wait.
Develop a feeding "system"-If nursing, have a small bag filled with the essentials: small pillow, blanket, bottle of water and burp cloth which you can grab at a moment's notice when baby is hungry.
Make lists-It only takes a moment to jot down errands to run, items to buy and things to do. The next time someone offers to help, you'll know exactly what needs to be done (and maybe if they see the list, they'll help even more).

I’m sure that you are well aware of the dreadful and violent acts committed against women all over the world. I don’t need to give you statistics; you see it on the news, read it in the papers and on the internet, and you may even know women who have been physically attacked or abused. But just because it happened to them doesn’t mean that it should happen to you. There are practical ways with which you can defend yourself against people who want to harm you. 1. Be alert and Confident- Listen, Watch, and Feel. Don’t use an MP3 player or your phone while walking. These will limit your ability to hear the sounds around you. When you walk, stand tall and look forward. This makes you look like a confident and empowered person. And lastly, listen to your intuition. If you feel that something is wrong, then don’t take chances. Go somewhere with many people or ask a friend to accompany you. 2. Mentally Prepare Yourself- Preparing for a violent attack is no different than preparing for any other emergency and denial can cost you your life. In the book You Are Not So Smart, author David McRaney tells the story of a couple who survived a large plane crash. The husband had mentally prepared for the emergency and was therefore able to quickly take action during the few moments between the plane hitting the ground and the explosion that followed, while his wife and the rest of the passengers were frozen by fear. He grabbed his wife’s hand and ran for safety, as everyone else sat in their seats unable to process the reality of the plane crash. By simply opening himself up to the possibility of danger, the man empowered himself to take action when the “unthinkable” happened. Do you know what you would do if you awoke to a man in your bed trying to rape you? Have you ever allowed yourself to consider the possibility or do you hide from such thoughts? Force yourself to think about what you would do if someone were attempting to rape, kidnap or rob you. By mentally preparing yourself, you will be less likely to become frozen by fear and unable to defend yourself if the “unthinkable” were to happen. 3. You Have the Right to Fight- Don’t be afraid to fight if you feel threatened in any way. A decent man won’t approach a woman in a place that she would feel vulnerable, especially after she yells for him to stop. Statistics show that women who don’t resist are more likely to be assaulted and sustain more serious injuries than women who fight back. When under attack, adopt the Cobra Kai code “Strike first! Strike hard! Strike fast! No mercy!” Don’t wait for things to escalate. Your goal is not to stay and fight; it is to break away from your attacker so you can run for help.
